When you name yourself after an Eyehategod song, it's to be expected that you'll probably sound like the band as well. I don't mind worship bands, so long as they do a good job at it. I think Medicine Noose falls in that category. There's some moments on this demo where they kind of stray away from the sound, but for the most part it's Black Flag on Xanax or Black Sabbath meets the Melvins album "Gluey Porch Treatments". You know, not unlike how Eyehategod sounds. The vocals screech as if the singer just swallowed a bunch of broken glass mixed with gravel, while the rest of the band plays at a snail's pace, and crawls inching more and more toward sounds of sludgy satisfaction. The guitars are nasty as fuck, while the bass stays out the way. The drums are brooding and menacing, as they kick and punch their way through each song. There's moments of hardcore punk brandishing, and definitely a stoner groove thrown in here and there for good measure, however again this is not unlike anything Eyehategod would do, and I'm cool with that. What I definitely really liked was the double kick that's used sparingly on this demo. I hope the next recording from these dudes goes to town with that. Overall, there's nothing new under the sun, so why not have some fun, and listen to a band that sounds like one of your favorite bands. Plus these dudes are from Berlin. So hey, it's another Sludge Metal band from Germany that I like! Cheers! -Samir
