Can you smell it? Hanging thick in the air with sharp pungency, heavy enough to make you choke - it's the toxic miasma of Resin, a sludge/stoner trio from British Columbia. Their latest release "Breathing Frequencies" takes that stank and turns it into sound so that they can kick it into your lungs through your ear holes. The EP creeps in sluggishly, starting off with a slow traveling jam to put you at ease. It isn't until halfway into that first track that you get a whiff of the sludgy aggression that's about to consume you. Over the laid-back stoner riffs come the shouts of the vocalist, deeply strained with a scathing rasp. As he screams, an acidic cloud of gas pours from his mouth, distorting the music and making it decadently dirty. Now we have a vile, lumbering beast tainting anything in its path with a nasty groove. The guitar tone here can become absolutely corrosive and burn through almost anything it touches. As the songs go on, you'll hear some progressive influences sneak in periodically creating moments of clarity that ring out through the mire before ultimately vanishing and leaving you stranded in the haze. Once it's started you can't hold this filthy creature back, so give in and let those noxious fumes peel back your skin - you weren't using it anyway. -Brandon
